Tetanus, diphtheria and polio (DTP) - vaccination
Tetanus is caused by a toxin produced by bacteria called Clostridium tetani. The toxin released by the bacteria may attack the nerves of the brain and spinal cord. Tetanus is not spread by person-to-person contact but is picked up from injuries such as animal bites, rusty nails, glass, burns, and more. Diphtheria is a highly infectious bacterial infection that can affect the nose and throat (respiratory diphtheria) and sometimes the skin (cutaneous diphtheria). Respiratory diphtheria is typically spread by coughing, sneezing, and close contact with infected people. Polio (Poliomyelitis) is a virus that is transmitted through ingesting contaminated food and water or by direct contact with an infectious person. Please contact the pharmacist for the vaccine name and dosage information.
