Japanese encephalitis - vaccination

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a mosquito-borne viral encephalitis caused by a flavivirus. JE cannot be transmitted from person to person. Symptoms of JE include fever, headache, and confusion, and in some cases, also seizures, stiff neck, inability to speak, tremor, or paralysis. In symptomatic cases requiring hospitalisation. It can take several months to make a full recovery, and up to half of those who do survive are left with permanent brain damage. The JE vaccine (aged 2 months and older) course should be completed at least 1 week before travel. Two doses are required, with an option to get a booster later if needed. Vaccination is done either on days 0 and 28 or days 0 and 7. Contact our pharmacist for more information. £110 per dose
